Are Lasers the Best Skin Treatments?

The question of whether or not lasers are the best skin treatments is constantly debated. There really is no all-encompassing answer. The truth of the matter is that there are so many factors that go into successfully treating skin ailments that lasers are the best options in some situations, but not that effective in others. Then there are a select few situations where they could actually do more harm than good.

With all of that said, laser treatments can have some excellent uses. There are many skin issues that can be treated with one type of laser or another. However, there are also other skincare treatments that may be more appropriate in some instances. That’s why exploring every avenue is important before you just take a blind turn and have a specific treatment done.

Having a Laser Treatment Versus Having Surgery

The first comparison to make is the one between surgical interventions and lasers. Surgeries like facelifts may seem quite invasive and time consuming, but there are situations where your sagging skin or other skin issues might require surgery. On the other hand, your skin concerns might be simpler than that, in which case the solution may also be simpler. For instance, unwanted hair machines, wrinkle removal machines, and even tattoo removal machines are all part of the laser family.

Most laser treatments fall in the category of moderate skin treatments. In other words, they can treat minor to moderate skin concerns. Those concerns include everything from the previously mentioned unwanted hair to reducing the appearance of old scars. But the bottom line is that all laser procedures are safer, faster, and easier than surgery. So, if your concerns haven’t reached the critical stage yet, you might want to keep them on your possibility list.

Be Aware of the Various Laser Types

If you do think that laser treatment might be right for you, the next step is to find the right type of laser. There are many of them out there. Some lasers are stronger than others, and some are designed with specific skin issues in mind. There are also some lasers that are calibrated to treat certain shades of skin better than others. Those are all issues that you have to think about, along with the general condition of your skin.

Non-Laser and Non-Surgical Ways to Treat Skin Concerns

Remember, it’s not just a question of whether laser treatment or surgery is the best answer. There are also plenty of other skincare treatments out there. Some of them include chemical peels, ultrasound treatments, microdermabrasion, and radio frequency treatments. They all have their own potential benefits.

For example, sound wave treatments like ultrasound can help your body to start repairing itself. Chemical peels, on the other hand, can bypass your body’s natural process of slowly shedding skin cells. Instead, the chemical peel can remove your entire top layer of skin at once. That sort of treatment can generally help to get rid if surface issues, but might not necessarily treat all of your skin like sound wave treatments or some laser procedures.

So, are lasers the best treatment for you? Clearly that’s a complicated question that will have a complicated answer, but don’t let it get you down. You can easily consult with any trained clinician or dermatologist to get every option explained in detail. They can also probably rule certain procedures in or out for you right away based on your skin’s condition and your general health history.
